In the UltraPERC project, ISFH, together with its industrial partners Singulus and LPKF, develops the existing PERC technology to higher efficiencies and investigates processes for the integration of charge carrier selective contacts into the PERC+ cell.
One goal of the UltraPERC project is to increase the efficiency of industrially manufactured PERC+ solar cells from currently 22.1% to over 23%. This will be made possible by new surface passivations that meet the requirements of ever better emitters. The further development is based on SiOx/SiNy stacks, which are deposited by PE-CVD on typical industrial equipment.
Processes for the integration of charge carrier selective POLO contacts into the PERC+ cell are investigated in a parallel development line. The aim is to replace the front side of the PERC+ cell, which currently limits efficiency, with POLO contacts. For this purpose, deposition methods for the production of POLO layers will be investigated in laboratory equipment and, in a further step, in typical industrial equipment. With this cell concept, efficiencies of more than 23% are to be achieved.
