In the ARTEMIS project we are focusing on the optimization of PV modules fabricated with POLO BJ (back junction) solar cells. This project will strengthen the currently running project APOLON (funded by BMWK) by increasing the team members up to 13 researchers in both projects together in order to accelerate the R&D from solar cell to module. By continuously producing high amounts of solar cells and modules, the module fabrication as well as process and product stabilities will be optimized to ensure the commercial success of our new PV product. The POLO BJ technology has an efficiency potential which is 1 %abs higher than the current main stream PERC technology, but it requires the same number of process steps by utilizing most of the tools from existing PERC production lines. Therefore, the production cost will be comparable to PERC modules, but the cost per kWp will be lower. The POLO BJ solar cells can be easily upgraded POLO IBC solar cells which have a nearly 2 %abs higher efficiency potential than PERC solar cells.
