On Thursday, May 9, 2019, Dr. Felix Haase gave a brief introduction to passivating contacts and above all to the “poly-Si on oxide”, or POLO, technology developed at ISFH as part of the online seminar series of the renowned trade journal pv magazine. Dr. Haase first discussed the limitations of the PERC technology, the advantage of passivating contacts and several options for their integration into solar cells contacted on both sides.
In the second section, Dr. Haase presented the world record solar cell with 26.1 % efficiency on boron-doped p-type silicon and showed how a very similar cell structure could be transferred to industrial production. He addressed both aspects of module production and long-term stability.
