Research line for the automated production of customized PV modules

The aim of the DIGI-PV project is to reduce barriers to the large-scale use of PV technology in order to open up significantly more facade areas for energy use, with a focus on existing buildings. The current obstacles are the complex planning processes for BIPV façades and the non-automated and therefore costintensive production of BIPV modules. For this purpose, automated processes and tools are being developed that enable planners, producers and users to implement efficient and cost-effective processes and support them along several phases of the product life cycle. These range from methods for highly automated acquisition, digitization, classification and structuring of building surfaces in existing buildings, the development of digital twins of buildings, the automated design of BIPV modules for optimal use of the building surface and methods for automated production planning and optimization for the sustainable production of PV façade elements.
Within the scope of this sub-project, the framework conditions for the automated design of the PV façades and the processes for the resulting parts lists and product details for the PV modules to be manufactured will be developed. For the production of the PV modules, the interactions between the process parameters and the properties of the cell strings and PV modules will be determined in order to enable the best possible quality, but especially short run-in times for modified processes. Adapted and flexible characterization methods and AI-based procedures for their evaluation will be developed. The developments of the project will be transferred to a flexible research line, evaluated in operation and demonstrated on a real BIPV façade.
