EASi – Epitaxy-free absorber for cost-efficient tandem solar cells based on silicon

Tandem solar cells based on silicon are an attractive option for future Si-PV applications as they combine cost-efficient silicon technology with significant improvements of the energy conversion efficiency. In EASi, we are developing cost-efficient components for the fabrication of tandem solar cells based on silicon. The aims of the project are:

  • Development of a robust bottom solar cell with passivating contacts that can be combined with different top solar cells
  • Development and characterization of the functional interface between the passivating front side contact of the silicon solar cell and a top solar cell
  • Evaluation and development of the synthesis of epitaxy-free semiconductors on silicon

At the end of the project, we will combine all components to demonstrate an epitaxy-free tandem solar cell based on silicon with an energy conversion efficiency of 25%.
