The “Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell” (PERC) technology is currently being introduced globally into mass production, as it yields energy conversion efficiencies above 21% at only slightly higher costs. The aim of the HighPERC project is to develop a high-quality, partly laboratory-type baseline PERC process at ISFH that yields efficiencies up to 22% and can be used as a benchmark or development platform for industrial processes. In addition, ISFH will support a number of tool manufacturers with process and tool development:
- Improvement of the polishing and AlOx/SiN passivation of the rear side of PERC solar cells in cooperation with SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG.
- Development of new laser processes and tools for laser contact opening at the rear side of PERC solar cells in cooperation with LPKF SolarQuipment GmbH.
- Evaluation and development of ultra-fine Ag front side contacts using innovative screen-printing technology in cooperation with ASM AE.
At the end of the project, all new production processes will be combined to demonstrate an industrial process sequence for PERC solar cells that yields efficiencies of at least 21.5%.
