The work planned at ISFH in the OBELIX project builds on technological developments at the ISFH, in which highly efficient solar cells based on passivating POLO (POLy-Si on Oxide) contacts have been developed within the last few years. The investigation of the long-term stability of these contact systems under conditions representing field conditions is the focus of the experimental work. By developing a comprehensive understanding of the physical processes, methods for improving the long-term stability of the interfaces can be derived, which will ultimately lead to an increased service life of the modules. The most important project goals of the ISFH sub-project can be summarised as follows: (1) Determination of the long-term stability of POLO-like layers for highly efficient cell concepts under field-like conditions on suitable test structures, (2) Elucidation of the physical mechanisms that influence the stability of the layer systems, (3) Influence of process steps on the long-term stability of the POLO layers, and (4) Development of strategies to improve the stability, e.g. through adapted processes or post-treatments.
