The ISFH is pursuing a novel tandem approach for the integration of perovskite top solar cells on a c-Si bottom solar cell, which is based on the c-Si solar cells developed at the ISFH in recent years. Over the past 12 years, the ISFH has made important contributions to the development of PERC and PERC+ solar cells, which today account for about 70% of the world market. In addition, the ISFH has developed the passivating POLO contacts on poly-Si basis with a laboratory record efficiency of 26.1% over the past 6 years.
In the project 2Power-Pero the ISFH installs a new coating tool and develops coating processes, which are of central importance for the production and further development of the novel industrial perovskite silicon tandem solar cell. The new perovskite coating system will allow the deposition of a full perovskite solar cell layer stack on silicon wafers with industrial sizes. It will include evaporation processes for perovskite absorber layers, charge carrier transport layers, and soft deposition methods for a transparent front electrode. The absorber composition can be engineered via co-evaporation. Metal oxides like indium zinc oxide (IZO) can be deposited as the transparent front electrode in a separate process chamber, which
allows for tuning the oxide layer stoichiometry via the oxygen partial pressure.
